Windows 8 – badness incarnate

So it turns out Windows 8 is a cruel trick from the devil. I’m serious about that. Without going into detail (i.e. skipping the ranting and raving process), I’ll just provide a solution I found:

I followed step 1, and now most of the “cruel trick” has been removed. Yay!!
